Streaming Exclusive Day 4: But why is it 57 minutes long though?

My Mood For The Day: I really need to eliminate this part of the template because it always make me sound like a lazy good-for-nothing human, but here we are again: I was sick. I wanted to lay in bed. It snowed the night before thus putting a damper on fun things I might’ve otherwise done.

Streaming Exclusive Day 3: Oh yeah!! THIS SHOW!

My mood for the day: I worked my first ever double which gave me a nice sense of accomplishment but also meant I didn’t have much time for streaming. I was low on energy. I swear to you, one of these days I’ll actually be in the mood for a drama but today was not the day.

Do I Even Like Stranger Things?

People who have known me a long time know that it took me a ridiculously long time to finish the Harry Potter books. This isn’t because I thought the books were bad, it’s because I realized around 12 years old that I wasn’t reading out of genuine enjoyment, but out of social pressure. It was what everyone else was doing. It was something you did to feel relevant in the sort of bookworm social circles that 12-year-old me associated with.

The current version of this is Stranger Things. It’s not a BAD show. But the more I watch the more I can’t help but think that I’m not watching it out of genuine enjoyment, I’m watching because if I don’t watch it right now, someone might spoil it. It feels like a show I’m supposed to like. I WANT to catch up on Jane The Virgin, Crazy Ex Girlfriend, This Is Us, and Hell’s Kitchen. But I NEED to watch Stranger Things because I’m trying to have a blog about movies and tv and Stranger Things is something I should probably write about for SEO purposes. Marshall Should’ve Been a Miniseries

So you may be vaguely aware of the fact that Chadwick Boseman is continuing his string of biopics about awesome, trailblazing black guys. Good for you Chadwick Boseman, you go Chadwick Boseman.

I Like Lady Shows and I’m Proud

So while I was doing my 30 Pilots in 30 Days project, one of the rules was that I could only watch the pilots on my list, no binging the shows. One night, I was in the mood to binge. I wanted something shallow and perhaps even a little stupid. I’ve used Sex and the City for this purpose before but when I saw an ad for The Bold Type in my newsfeed, I couldn’t help but wonder if someone FINALLY pulled off a good “ambitious young female writer in NYC and friends” show so I decided to give it a shot.

The Bold Type/Freeform

If you’ve never watched the show, it’s about three millennial women working at a fictional version of Cosmo and their trials and tribulations both personally and professionally. Fun fact: it’s still about that even if you have watched the show, but I digress.

The Bold Type exceeded my expectations. It tackled many issues that a lot of other feminist shows are scared to, including sex work and Islamophobia. It explored how mainstream feminism can sometimes have unintended consequences, such as how sexual liberation can also make women feel bad about themselves if they’re not having sex. I realized within the first few episodes that I was falling in love with this show.

Then I had this very brief moment where I hated myself for falling in love with this show. It was supposed to be a shallow, stupid, Sex in the City type show, right? I was too cool for such shows, right?
